Students Involved in Geophysical Weather and Atmospheric Studies

De La Salle District Schools

SIGWA works with De La Salle district schools in observing weather parameters all over the Philippines. Each affiliate school receives a Celestron Deluxe Weather Station from the project to make weather observations.

Weather observation is done with the help of the students. Teaching them proper scientific data collection methodologies and appreciate more the weather we experience everyday. After encoding and logging of meteorological data, students also learn about certain data formats convention that is important for their data to be easily understandable by other users.

Here is a list of the De La Salle district schools

  • DLSU Manila
  • DLSU Dasmarinas
  • De La Salle Canlubang
  • De La Salle-Santiago Zobel School
  • De La Salle Lipa
  • La Salle Greenhills

Module for Students and teachers on Weather observation

Weather observation entails several tasks for the students.

  • Be more aware of daily weather conditions
  • Reading and understanding current weather parameters from AWOS
  • Logging of data
  • Saving and archiving data
  • Uploading (via ftp) of data to a central repository

Once data is uploaded to the central repository, data will be checked for errors then displayed on this website. It goes without saying that the participation of the students is critical to the success of this project.
